Details of the Free Online Food Handling Course
The course is to provide online study and information for students to prepare for the exam in order to receive the New York City Department of Health's Food Protection Certificate. Anyone in the state of New York working in the capacity of supervising food operations of any food service facility or food processing facility must possess the certificate. During the hours the facility is in operation, the supervisor holding the certificate must be present.
The course is separated into fifteen lessons and can be taken at your own pace without a time limit. Each lesson will take around one hour to complete. At the end of every lesson a short test will be given. In order to move forward to the next lesson, the test must be completed and each question must have been answered correctly.

Exam after completion of free online food handling course
Once you have completed all 15 lessons and the small test for each lesson you will then have the opportunity to pay the fee to take the final exam. When you register for the exam you can choose the date and time you desire to take the final exam. After you have registered, you will get a document confirming your exam date and time. In order to take the exam, you will need to bring this document and your identification.
In order to take the free online food handling course exam the type of identification that are acceptable are:
- Drivers license
- Photo identification such as state ID
- Alien registration card
- Naturalization certificate with photo
- United States passport with photo
- Foreign passport with photo
On the exam, you can expect 50 written questions. You will need at least one hour to take the exam and must receive a score of 70 percent to pass the test. If you fail the test, you will need to complete the course again before taking the test over.
